Born and bred on a mountainside in the Catskills, singer-songwriter Elijah Wolf-Christensen spent his days surrounded by nature. After many years honing his skills, he self-released his debut EP, As Tall as the Sun, in July 2012 while attending the Studio Composition program at SUNY Purchase. He then began working with the bassist and arranger Gianluca Minnuci and violinist Kenneth Trotter–both fellow students and close friends. It became clear that they each had mutually beneficial talents, and decided to make their collaboration a lasting project. Thus Elijah & the Moon was formed. Bringing together the honest roots folk of the Hudson Valley, a full and energetic rock band feel, and conservatory training, Elijah & the Moon is always excited to share their message with anyone willing to listen.
This new formation led to a first full album called ‘The Lonesome World Beyond The Trees”. This album is not ‘just’ a home recorded release. The album is a very complete one with beautiful additional instruments (cellos, percussion, guitars etc.). There are some really beautiful harmonies in the songs which do make us think of Fleet Foxes which Elijah should receive as a BIG compliment. The band still does have a own sound which is characterized by the violin played by Kenneth Trotter.
We’re not really reviewers but if we should rate this album it will definitely score 8 out of 10.
