EASEL, the debut EP from The Oarsman, was recorded while traveling from the Northern woods of Michigan to Indiana, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee. EASEL is a work that outlines the culmination of failed relationships, new beginnings, acceptance, and spiritual re-birth.
Made using only the iPhone’s Voice Memo application, The Oarsman’s Marcus Christopher Maloney (formerly of Honest Engines, Many Places) sketched the songs out on beds, in cars, hallways, and park benches. The intimate and simple nature of the recordings are not meant to be of low fidelity or quirky; rather, to highlight and accentuate the fragility of time, what we choose to do with it, and it’s power to heal.
